RE: Cameo and Dodge Mega Cab

One more word of caution. I have a 06 Dodge 3500 MegaCab SRW. It has the same payload as a Chevy 2500. Right about 2500 lbs. Rear axle wieght is 6000 lbs. The Dual Mega actually drops the payload due to the extra weight of the wheels by about 100 lbs.
.
the Mega cab dually has a 9350 RAWR vs 6400 RAWR for your 3500 srw Mega/quad cabs. He has another 2500 lb payload above your SRW truck.
If your truck has a ladin rear axle weight of 6000 lb your 400 lbs under your axle/tire caps. You have plenty of capacity left.
Jim
Well he better check the sticker, because if that is the case why didn't the GVWR go up. It is 10500 for all MegaCabs regardless of DRW/SRW. In 2007 the highest payload is 2780 for a 4x4, only a couple hundred pounds higher than my 2006. I remember from the brochure I had at the time that payload decreased with the DRW option due to the extra weight of the wheels. So if the rear axle really is different why didn't the payload go up?

RE: I'm confused!

ok, now some more input. if I go by the tire and loading decal, the truck would be worthless! 1642lbs
GVWR on this truck is 9k, the two wheel drive one I had in o3 was 12K. GAWR is 6100 rear, and 5200 front. Jim, my truck is a mega as well. 6.7 auto, 4wd, 3.73
Which is why I got into a 3500 MegaCab. I was looking at 2500s in the Chevy, until my wife and I saw the MegaCab. After looking at available payload, I knew I had to go to the 3500 to get close to the same payload as a non-mega 2500.
Sorry you missed the payload penalty of the Mega before buying your truck, but it is what it is.
Solution now is to buy a new truck, run at the axle/tire limits, run completely overweight or buy a trailer that fits within the capacities of your truck.

Your call but you WILL be overweight with a Cameo. It will pull it just fine, it is a matter of how comfortable you are being overloaded.

RE: Airbags or Timbren rubber spring helpers

Not sure on the low cost. Every set of Timbrens I looked at were in the $200 range. Airbags were $250.
My decision became easy when I won a PacBrake contest and got their airbags for free. Love em. Ride is more smooth.
Unless there is somewhere to get Timbrens for less than $200, I would have to say it comes down to personal preference.

RE: Tax question on bringing 5th wheel into state?

Normally if you do have to pay tax, it would be the difference between what you paid in Michigan and what NC would have charged.
When I moved to CA there was a 90 day limit on the tax charge. If you had owned the vehicle for more than 90 days, there was no tax to be paid.
Definitely call the DMV and see what NC rules are.

RE: o7 Montego Bay and Superglide hitch

I don't own a Pullrite so I can't tell you if there is normal play in the hitch itself, but do you have the pins in bed or is it attached to rails? My Reese clunks a bit during starting and stopping, Reese says it is normal. Some have readjusted the rails to eliminate. Difficult to eliminate if you are pulling the hitch in and out fairly often.

I bought my 08 Silverback in Sep of 07 and got permanent tags. Do you mean in 08 those are no longer available?

RE: Interior wall paper is bubbling and bubbles are hard

Had that on another trailer I had that was leaking from a marker light. It means you have a leak in that wall somewhere. You will need to have it fixed.

RE: Is this to much weight

Take a good hard look at the pin weight on that trailer. If it is 12500 dry then loaded the pin weight is probably in the 2500lb range.
Could be close with a 2500. Your call on whether you want to go over your listed capacities or not.

My unit has a storage compartment right above the electrical connection. I coil and put all electrical and water hoses into it.

RE: GPS Navigators for Fifth Wheel Owners

When you buy your unit, search the web for POI websites.
I loaded a low height restriction POI into my tomtom. I can't say for certain how complete it is. Shows a yellow warning icon on the map. I could set an audible warning when I get so close to it as well.
Does nothing for the initial routing, but at least may give you a heads up if you check the entire route.

RE: Water filter

We have a whole house on our Cedar Creek. Seems to really reduce the water pressure. Pulled the filter and went without last two trips. I am planning to buy the Home Depot replacements which do not filter as fine, but flow much better.

RE: Sold on Dodge Mega Cab...

Just have to chime in and say "GO MEGA!"
We love the truck. Went with the 3500 to get the best payload. Don't be fooled by the Duals. They actually lower your payload by about 200 lbs.
If stability is a concern they would be great, but they do nothing for your ratings.
I have an 06 and plan to eventually put the EB on it, it just hurts to lay out $1100. Should have had it included when I bought, but it was my first diesel, what the heck did I know.

RE: RAM 3500 mega cab dually to pull 5th wheel??

Actually the Mega Cab box is shorter than the standard short box. Chris
Actually it is not, it uses the same 76.3 inch (6 ft 4 inch)box as all the other shortbed models. I pull my Silverback with a slider and have only had to slide it to back into a couple sites. If the fiver you are looking at does not have an extended pin, it will be more problematic. There are other solutions like the Sidewinder and the Pullrite Automatic Slider, that can take all the worry out of it.
As others have said, watch your weights, for some reason Dodge only allows 9900 on my 06 3500, 07-08 moved up to 10500 GVWR. So my 06 has 2580 lbs of cargo capacity. Load up the family and gear, and some larger 5th wheels will have you over your limits.
With the 4.10 gears your towing is 15,900 and a GCWR of 23000 lbs. It is a very capable truck within its limits. If max capacity is what you need in a 1 ton, a better option would be the Quad Cab which can reach close to 4000 lbs of cargo capacity.

RE: 5th Airborne Sidewinder Install photos**UPDATED** page 4

Looks good. But I am curious.
It is my understanding that the Sidewinder is a sliding mechanism that is attached to the trailer rather than a slider hitch. Or is it a box that places a second kingpin back another 11-12"? And does this raise the front by approx 4"?
Either way my questions/concern: Is there any concern or mention of potential damage to the RV with this extension? My SunnyBrook has an extended Pin Box but certainly not long enough to allow me a full turn with my short bed truck. I know the Airborne has a rating of something like 6000# which is plenty for any pinbox.
When we bought new we were told that SunnyBrook would not put an extended on any rig longer than 30' due to stress in the 5er.
Any thoughts?
The sidewinder moves the pivot point from the hitch to the pin box. It sometimes raises the level 1-2 inches. It is not a second pin, it totally replaces the old pin. So the pin in the hitch is locked and does not turn.
It works because in order to turn 90 you need a min of 48 inches (assuming you have a 96 inch wide trailer) from the pivot point to the cab. Long beds have this automatically. My short bed (6 ft 3 in) only has 37.5 inches. So the sidewinder would move the pivot back another 12 inches giving me the 48" needed. Even if it does not give you 90, it will still greatly increase the amount you can turn. It also makes the trailer track more true, meaning it does not cut inside the truck's turn as much. I have a friend who has one on his Challenger, he loves it.

RE: Costly advice....

Why did you replace the sliding hitch? You will never have to slide it, but it will still work fine.
As to the 5AB, I have a great spot on the front of my 5er for it. I won't even charge you storage.

RE: Topsail State Park, Sandestin, Fl

Was there in June. Absolutely the best State Park Campground I have ever stayed at. But I can't give them all the credit, it was a private RV resort before the state bought it. So the layout is from some earlier genius, but the State has been maintaining it very well. Our tram only ran on the hour, but we had a furniture dolly full of camp gear to haul each day so we just rode our bikes. (3/4 of a mile to the beach on a paved, private road) Funny how well my rear end work as a trailer latch on a bike seat. (I am in the planning stages for a bike trailer for next year.)

RE: Can you shred these for me please?

Neither one is a four season trailer. If you are staying in warmer climates during the winter months, or can go without water during the winter, they should work fine.
Not sure if you mean full-time by "year round". Most of these trailer have a disclaimer in the manuals that they are not built for full time use. Not a real reason not to buy, but could cause issues for warranty work.
Other that that, I have heard good things about both manufacturers, but as always you can get a lemon in anything.

RE: Water heater not lighting on gas only

What about your batteries? The propane still needs DC to light the flame. Unplug from shore power and see if your lights, etc still work.
You might have fried a DC fuse when you plugged in.
